This post will be delivered serially in order to accommodate additional galleries of pictures, hence the title, 2023.1. At least three or four maybe more posts, inter-spaced by a couple of weeks each. Each gallery will contain about fifty to sixty images. I still have a lot of cutting to do.
I went to Paris for 31 days in May with the intention of walking my camera primarily around the Marais area. I walked 368,667 foot steps or 147.3 miles and made 3,119 images. The first round of editing saw 2,265 images bite the dust. What I found was a city struggling under the weight of growth, homelessness and immigration to maintain its preeminent position among the world’s most beautiful cities. Its mayor, Ana María Hidalgo, the first woman in history to hold the position, has done a remarkable job building green spaces, parks, reducing the amount of cars, and renewing many old buildings.
